We saw Happy Feet Two this weekend. Suppose I should have read the reviews first. Dylan sums it up the best, however.

Meet Rex, the pumpkin eating dinosaur. It seems Rex was crafted from some type of backhoe or similar machine. He runs on gas and is very hungry. Today started Dylan's week-long soccer camp. We signed him up more for the socialization than anything else. Even though he spends weekdays alongside other children his age, he's still so shy (gets it from me!). In typical Dylan fashion, he watched and whimpered for most of the time and opened up toward the end. Hopefully he'll continue the progress for the next few days.

We had been having a difficult time getting Dylan to calm down before bed so Dave came up with a fun technique. We sing a goodnight song which is a variant of a song we learned at swim lessons. It goes like this and I'll use Nora (one of Dylan's favorites) as an example:

"Goodnight Nora! Goodnight Nora! Goodnight Nora! We're glad you came to play."

We repeat with different names of family, friends or pets.

Lately, we've been letting him pick who to say good night to. I can't help but laugh at some of the things he comes up with! Aside from the usual Nana, Papa, Gram, Pop, Elmo, Gabba some recent ones that had me laughing:

I can't wait to see what he comes up with tonight :)

First Snowman

Dylan was super cranky today after coming off having a fever. After offering him several entertainment options, all of which he quickly shot down, I asked him if we wanted to build a snowman. He perked up with a snap and said "YES! OUTSIDE!". Desperate to get him out of his funk, I got us dressed and out the door....I did offer after all! We didn't stay out long, but he had a great time and was proud to add the head on our little snowman!

A Couple of Firsts

We had a very, very relaxing 3 day weekend. Dylan slept every day until past 8:30 (holy crap!). Anyhow, a couple of firsts to share today.

1. Dylan ate his first deer today- in kielbasa form! Loved it. Scarfed it and asked for more. Dave is hoarding it though, so he only got one piece.

2. Dylan pooped on the potty! I was putting some dishes away and he looked up at me and said "I poopin". I figured it was too late to make it to the toilet. Since I didn't smell anything, I took a peek and saw that the deed had not yet been done. So I whisked him away to the bathroom where he sat on his potty for a couple of seconds. As usual, he stood up quickly after loosing interest. Sat him down again, stood up again. This is the usual routine. Nothing was in the toilet yet, but he put his hand on his butt (doh!) and we noticed some poop on his finger. We immediately sat him down where he relaxed and let it fly! After some intense celebration (and hand-washing) Dylan was rewarded with an Oreo. Hopefully more of this to come! I decided to forgo the usual photo this time, sorry to disappoint!

I love Google. I'll admit, it's where I get the skinny on pretty much everything. Just for laughs, I thought I'd share 5 recent Googles with a bit of an explanation:

1. Barn Animals. No- I don't have a sick obsession, but Dylan does lately. Ever since he got a tractor with a CD called "Barn Songs" he's obsessed. He'll demand "Barn Songs" on the computer and especially likes to browse images of various barnyard animals while we listen.

2.UDI. Wanted to know about any upcoming conferences for a work project. There's one in DC I"m considering (.http://www.gs1.org/healthcare/news_events/060411). Sorry, boring I know!

3.Brett Farve Sexting. Not gonna lie, I was curious.

4. Goat Rentals. Again, not a barnyard obsession, I swear. I heard on the news you could rent them to "mow" your lawn. It's true you can, I just wanted to see for myself!

5. Harlem Globetrotter Tickets. We were thinking about taking D since he loves basketball. Somehow I ended up ticket surfing and wound up with tickets to circus instead...lol!

I was backing out of the garage today and in an instant, my new car turned into a hooptie. A little lack of attention and my driver's side rear view mirror (some of it) fell to the ground. The worst part is that Dave heard it and came running out. He was real happy, let me tell you. Unlike when I hit a mailbox with my old car a couple of years ago, I will get this repaired! Our friend Kristen always reminds me, it could be worse. I could have driven into the garage like she did. Sigh...

Viva la Mexico!

My fourth trip to Mexico did not disappoint. We had a great time with our friends the Wards who were kind enough to invite us. We stayed in their friend's house only few steps from the beach. Highlights included lounging at Senor Frogs, cruising 5th avenue and getting harassed by the shop owners (when we refused a trip to swim with the dolphins, a crazy Mexican told us he'd feed us to the alligators free of charge!), a day of all inclusive relaxation, a karaoke debut for Dave and Brian, and a catamaran ride. The best part was just lounging and joking around, we had an awesome time!

Elmo Extravaganza

Not sure what to do here. Dylan is ADDICTED to the blueberry variety of Entenmann's "Little Bites". It started out as a quick and easy breakfast idea for days when I didn't have time to prepare him an egg sandwich with soy sausage ( a much healthier option, of course). This easy fix has slowly evolved into an all out obsession. He'll climb the pantry, scream and is generally a mess until he holds the single serve packet in his hand. I'm not sure what to do, I guess we'll have to draw a hard line with this and it ain't gonna be easy.

Down on the Farm

Last Saturday we went to a local farm...a legit farm, maybe. More of a "agriturismo" similar to Roloff farm (if you've seen the show you know what I'm talking about). A bit more safe than that place. Anyhow, we had a great time peach picking, corn picking, hayriding, feeding the goats/sheet/pigs/geese. We came home with 1/2 peck of peaches, 4 ears of corn, 6 apple cider donuts, and a jar of blueberry preserves!

So I've never tried gardening anything in my life. The closest I've come is watering my friend's Chia Herb Garden in 1987. I think I ended up spilling it on the carpet! On a whim, I bought a cucumber plant. What started out as a teeny tiny seedling at the end of May has blossomed into this!

After I learned that you aren't supposed to dig the cucumbers out of the ground (duh!), I finally saw some signs of life. Even a "big" cucumber! I'm so excited!!!!!! Next year its gonna be bigger and better!

We had the pleasure of spending last weekend with our adorable niece Nora and Dave's sister Beth at the beach house. Our times together are centered around the kiddos and since they are so close in age we have been enjoying watching them grow up together. They especially enjoyed playing on the bed together where Dylan would "dive bomb" the pillows and Nora would jump and dance. We spent hours at the beach and we were all delighted when, on the last day, Nora worked up the courage to hit the waves! Needless to say, there were multiple lessons in sharing :) The visits seem too far between, but then again absence really does make the heart grow fonder and we seem to enjoy each visit to the fullest. Until Sept. 25th....

So we just bought a snowblower for $300.00 We actually split it with our good friends Kristen and Mark, so out of pocket is $150.00. It has an 8.5 horsepower engine, electric start and a 27" path. It retails for $1299.00. Not a bad deal.

I love old family photos; that's why my staircase is lined with them. I think my fascination is because they allow you peek back in time and "get to know" someone before you knew them. Once in a while I share some that I like. We made this great dish for dinner last night. I feel compelled to share, especially to those of you in the Wild clan who love your Indian cooking. Just one comment I would make- the spice mixture makes about 3x more than what you would need to serve 3-4 people. You can either cut back on it, or save the extra for next time. Suffice it to say Dylan knows who his Nana is. Every time she leaves the room he yells "NANA!" and goes looking for her. Not upset necessarily, just curious where she went. Every morning during our visit, he'd help her brush her teeth, dry her hair put on make-up. He sat patiently and did some primping of his own and practiced using the hairbrush on his own hair. It was very sweet to see them bonding. Now he so much as hears her voice and knows right away who he's talking to. He definitely knows who his Nana is.

Last summer on a trip to Northern Michigan for the annual Wild week, we stopped in a city called Mesick. The town was littered with references to mushrooms. This led to us telling Dave about the elusive Morel mushroom; only found in the deep woods for a short period in May each year. Since then he has been determined to experience them. He even went as far as buying them freeze dried at our supermarket. Well wasn't he just tickled pink to see this sign on the side of a back road in a heavily wooded area in Ada, MI on our way home from the airport. I'm not into mushrooms, but apparently this variety is considered to be the fillet Mignon of fungus. They are difficult to come by and the taste is hard to describe, but I'm told they are meaty and earthy. Anyway, we find this sign and and drive up to the people's house, settled back in the woods I felt like we were about to partake in an illegal deal of sorts. Dave and my dad go to the door with a wad of money and a couple of seconds later come back with a bag full of shroom goodness which was later sauteed with butter and savored by Dave.

Anniversary Dinner

For the last few years we had always talked about going to the legendary Vetri for dinner. I'm not sure how I managed, but I decided to bite the bullet and make reservations (2 months ahead, mind you) and not tell Dave until a week before. It was killing me because I'm so bad a keeping surprises from him. Well, let me just say that it was well worth the wait because this was by far the most amazing dining experience we have ever had and a great way to celebrate our anniversary.

First of all, it was a perfect, sunny spring evening. We started the night out with wine at Zavino's- which, by the way, I totally want to go back to to try the food.

Vetri was just a few blocks away. The restaurant sits less than 40 people and is situated in a row home near Philly's theater district in the area of the city affectionately known as the "gayborhood". Our meal began with amuse-bouch (bite size appitizers) trio consisting of morels on a crustini, spanish mackerel and foie gras. A couple of more courses of succulent deliciousness were placed before us including spinach gnocchi in brown butter, a sweet onion crepe, ramp ravioli and a couple others. Since we had the tasting menu, we'd each get a different dish and share with each other. The main course was baby goat with polenta. I would be lying if I said goat tastes like chicken because it was so much better. We decided to add a cheese course before desert. We had 5 different cheeses with housemade fruit bread, cranberry relish and lavender honey. For desert I'm not sure what Dave had, because I was too preoccupied with my chocolate polenta souffle.

The icing on the cake was that they send you home with your menu (which is what you see in the photo) and....get this.....lemon blueberry pound cake muffins for the next morning! This was certainly an experience we will not forget.

Sony, the world's biggest manufacturer of 3.5" floppy disks announced they will no longer produce these relics as of March 2o11. Some people do not know, but these were originally made to fit in a dress shirt pocket. Most floppys are high density and are capable of storing 1.44 MegaBytes of data. In the 90's they were phased out to CD's, which are being replaced by DVD's. Nowadays you can buy USB flash drives at the checkout to grocery stores that hold more than four thousand times the amount of the floppy for $10. You can also buy a terabyte USB external drive for $99, which is around 1 million floppy drives. Farewell, floppy friend.....
